TEDxYouth@NASA: Be Astronomical! An adventure in STEM and self-discovery!

TEDx organizers picked November 20, United Nations Universal Children’s Day, to host multiple events for youth across the world in every time zone over this 24-hour period.

The vision for our event was conceived to support the President’s initiative for STEM education. Working through school districts, we seek to cast a wide net to reach students ages 13-18, who have been identified as interested and possessing potential, but who are not currently pursuing STEM related study.

To pique their interest, we will immerse them in a scientific and technologically rich interactive environment. We will expose them to personal development messaging aimed at cultivating the belief in each one of them that they can indeed reach their dreams. Adding to this stimulating venue will be various displays and many exciting exhibits, including the newly released, phenomenally realistic Eyes On the Solar System application.

Our presenters are diverse, among them a scientist, an educator, a social networking expert, a poet and an activist. The activities in between sessions will involve both fun and learning. Our theme, Be Astronomical! is meant to excite our participants about the science and inspiration integrated throughout the event.
