The Virginia Air & Space Center is a 110,000 square foot facility on the waterfront at 600 Settlers Landing Road in Downtown Hampton, Virginia. It is home to the Apollo 12 Command Module, a three-billion year-old moon rock, a stunning collection of historic spacecraft and aircraft suspended from the 90-foot ceiling, a collection of over 100 hands-on exhibits, and a five-story 3D IMAX® theater.

At our event, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connections. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized.

Richard Antcliff is the Chief Technologist of the NASA Langley Research Center and director of the center’s Strategic Relationships Office. He received his Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from the University of Georgia. After a series of leadership positions at NASA and a brief stint at Disney Imagineering, Rich became head of the newly created “Innovation Institute” at Langley, the forerunner of his current organization. He and his wife, Joanne, live in Hampton, Virginia. They have four children and 100,000 honeybees. |

She has especially enjoyed working with the teens in today’s program. This is her sixth TEDx event. |

Mark Moore has been designing advanced aircraft concepts at NASA for over 27 years, with a focus on small aircraft that can takeoff and land vertically, without a runway. He received his Master’s degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Stanford University and is currently completing his Ph.D. at Georgia Tech. His research focuses on “On-Demand Aviation,” that is, Personal Air Vehicles that most people will be able to afford and be capable of flying. His current research explores the new technology frontier of electric propulsion in order to achieve quiet, reliable, safe, and low cost aircraft that you will be flying someday soon. He was one of the principle researchers involved with NASA’s “Green Flight Challenge,” which just awarded the largest aviation prize of all time and achieved a new world record in efficient flight. |
